For more than 100 years, the word Shell, our seashell symbol and the distinctive red and yellow colors have been the Shell brand and support our values and the quality of our products and services around the world.
The word Shell first appeared in 1891 as a trademark of kerosene, which was shipped from the Far East by Marcus Samuel and Company. This small London business originally dealt with antiques, curiosities and oriental shells. These were so popular (mainly due to their use to decorate jewelry boxes in Victorian times) that they soon became the basis of the company's profitable import and export.
Our core values are honesty, integrity and respect for people. Shell's General Business Principles, Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics help everyone in Shell to act on our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
