The Counselling Service is dedicated to providing high-quality counseling and support to students, using a range of different counseling pathways. The Student Counsellor role involves working one to one to one with students to assess their needs and suitability for counseling and providing individual counseling sessions as well as other interventions such as group therapy. The post holder will have experience in providing a range of interventions and with assessing and managing risk, referring to external services where necessary. The role involves working in a holistic and collaborative way, to ensure that the student has access to services which best meet their individual needs. The post holder will also have experience in creating and delivering training and workshops to both students and staff on a range of relevant well-being related topics. The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures. This post is available on a full-time or job-share basis. (If you wish to apply on a job share basis you must state this on your application). Please be advised that due to the minimum salary thresholds imposed by the UKVI, this post will qualify for University sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.<\/div>\n

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
\n1. To provide 1-2-1 personal counseling and psycho-educational groups to students.
\n2. To provide consultation, liaison, and referral services for staff, subject to the confidentiality of the counseling contract held with students. (Referral may include internal and\/or external agencies.)
\n3. Respond to mental health crisis situations and contribute to developing\u00a0crisis management policies.
\n4. Be able to work with and demonstrate an understanding of the unique issues for counseling posed by working in a Higher Education Institution.
\n5. To record and maintain case information concerning students concisely and accurately along with submission of statistical reports where required.
\n6. To deliver staff development on mental health and counseling issues.
\n7. To liaise and work in partnership with staff within Student and Library Services, the Students\u2019 Union and staff in the wider University on activities that are relevant to the resilience and well-being of the student body.
\n8. To build appropriate links with agencies outside the University that can contribute to the support and welfare of students. (It should be noted, however, that options for referral to community-based counseling\/psychotherapy is limited, so counselors have to be able to work with students with serious emotional difficulties.)
\n9. To undertake regular Supervision in keeping with the relevant professional association of which the counselor is a member.
\n10. To undertake a continuous commitment to professional development in terms of research and other relevant reading material that is beneficial to the practice of counseling and psychotherapy in Teesside University Counselling Service.
\n11. Promote Equality and Diversity for all staff and students.
\n12. Adhere to the University\u2019s Health and Safety Policy and guidelines.
\n13. Adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
\n14.
