The concept of security implies the absence of risk, feeling of being protected, subject’s state when he is not in danger. Regarding the security of employment, it can be characterized as a combination of terms of workers’ life and health preservation at the workplace, providing of their basic rights and needs at work.
There are various working conditions in different companies of different countries; correspondingly, safety principles at the workplace are also various. Somewhere these parameters are controlled by governmental organizations, somewhere by trade unions or security departments located directly on the enterprises.
Recently, in connection with apparent events, many specialists are afraid to consider a job in Libya as a stage in their career. However, given the current situation in Ukraine and the world as a whole, life in Libya can be even safer according to many criteria. At the same time, the salary in this African country is ten times higher than in Ukraine and many other European countries.
Even despite internal conflicts, Libya looks much more trouble-free and safer country. It remains a modern and perspective country. Apart from that, most of the large enterprises that invite foreigners for work are located in the safest cities of Libya – Tripoli and Misurata. Citizens of these cities mainly follow European values though they are Muslims by religion.
Libya is more dangerous only in relation to accidents. Indeed, this is one of the worst countries for drivers. The reason is the abundance of scooters and motorcycles (the drivers of these vehicles often fall into accidents) and poor road surface as a result of the war. However, within the same Tripoli and Misurata, the movement is safer and the accidents do not happen more often than in any other country.
It is necessary to note that most of the large companies of Libya were built according to modern standards, unlike companies in many other countries of the former Soviet Union, many of which were built in a short time more than 50 years ago, and because of their “age” do not meet many safety requirements. The level of production traumatism in Ukraine “exceeds” Libyan in almost 2 times! In Europe, it is more dangerous to work only in Russia (however, it does not stop many of our fellow citizens), but for some reason, only a few people agree to work in Libya, whereas thousands go to Russia.
Indeed, agreeing to work in Libya, the applicant should be aware that this is a country where there are internal conflicts, it is in a transitional period, it does not have a stable full-fledged government, and where you must adhere to basic rules of personal safety. Possibly, a job in Tripoli will be harder (theoretically) than a job in Warsaw. But the reward for work in Libya is counted in the thousands of dollars, not hundreds as in Poland.
Thus, a job in Libya is the opportunity to earn good money, improve your knowledge of foreign languages, meet another culture, see the world with the same risks that you have at home – and even fewer ones if you look at the statistics.
Mare decisions carefully, weigh all the “pros” and “cons”, and if you decide to work abroad – no matter what country it will be – be open to new opportunities and be ready for new realities.
